Since March 2022, Weesp is an independent city municipality within Amsterdam, but the character of the ancient fortified town on the river Vecht is still intact, with a well-preserved historic center and carefully maintained canals. This part of the water is only suitable for small, open boats and empties into the Kom, with open passage to Muiden, Utrecht and Amsterdam.
